Well there's this thing about me and directions. We don't go- at all. When I'm on the road, left becomes right, and right is LEFT; maps are interpreted upside down and I give directions opposite to what they should be. I like to blame it on the right sided brain dominance or being female, but at this point, I couldn't even think what left or right meant or where the brain was!
All confidence had shattered. Where was I? How do I get back? Although it should have been as simple as turning around and following the same road I came from, it somehow just didn't register. I kept driving straight on, hoping the highway would come to an end somehow.
Of course, it didn't. Far from it! What actually made me hope it would anyway?! Twenty five minutes later, I arrived at a huge wooden signboard which read:
"Welcom t Wat Vill"
Still in my car, I lifted my seat to get a glimpse of where I had come to. Wooden houses were neatly built on stilts over water. There was something special about this place, something eerie. Not that there were rabbits anywhere. I pulled up at the gates and realised it could have read 'Welcome to Water Village'. The signboard of rotting wood looked like it could crumble with the touch of a finger. I looked at my watch and it was...nearly dinnertime? Had I been driving for so long? How did I allow fear overtake logic and rational thinking? I looked back- no sign of the highway or roads. What about land? Hadn't I been driving on land? There was land- a lot of it. But no highway, no roads and a village on water right up ahead. Where was I?
