What is it like...?

Just a few months ago, when life wasn't that complicated (in a good way), I was asked 'what's it like to have a baby in your body?'

Now, when life is oh-so-dramatic and much more complicated than complicated can be, friends start wondering, 'what's it like to be a mother?' Or should they perhaps be asking, 'What's it like to be a new, clueless, young mother?'

With my hands nearly drying out from washing and diaper-changing and my brain deep fried in bub's cries, I snatch a minute to ponder upon how life has changed.

Too bad I can't write any longer than I intend to, in a minute the house will be filled with melodious sounds from a tiny set of lungs- so powerful it saps all the energy off two grown adults. Oh wait- here he goes...

(15minutes later)

After a whole morning of being unsettled and crying his lungs out, we decide to bathe him to see if it helps settle him. But this time, we are both at our wits' end and I could feel a headache coming on. The bath helped but then by the time he finished his bath, it was time to be hungry again so he starts belting out his hunger cries. Then comes the cries for burping, this guy eats so fast he swallows a lot of air.

Half an hour later he is more settled so we place him in a baby rocker on the floor. It's only as high as four or five inches above the ground, so it is easliy accessible to the dog.

Curious Java comes up to bub to have a peek.

"Hi Java, look at baby but don't disturb him," I try to be as loving to Java as possible to avoid jealousy. She didn't seem to have a problem. The tail wagged a little and she sniffed his tiny head.

And then...

"Achooo!!!"

Java sneezed all over bub.

Noooooo.....

We looked at each other's exhausted faces and panda eyes then at the dog and the baby on the floor.

Sigh.

No one dared say anything!

So with Java's sneeze droplets on him and two adults flat out on the couch, bub slips away into a world of sweet dreams as if nothing ever happened...
