Dead Serious

The other day my husband and I were talking about med school.

It seems the days of cadavers are long gone.

As we all know, I suffer some sort of memory loss and some level of stupidity since the birth of little E.

I still remember the face of the cadaver we worked on in pharmacy school and the smell of preserved organs. A few of my coursemates nearly puked, some fiddled with it's (his?) intestines like it was just rags. I stayed a good distance away but close enough to get a glimpse of his face. They usually keep the head of the cadaver covered in black cloth, but that day the tutor was feeling adventurous and asked if we wanted to see all his organs. Poor man, I thought. And how generous he was to be on this operating table. Maybe he didn't have anyone else...but the thoughts stopped there. I shouldn't judge. Maybe he loved medicine and wanted to make a difference in this world.

"Hmm...I wonder why they don't have many cadavers these days. Maybe they're expensive?"

"I don't know, Rach (sarcastic). I think people need to be willing to donate their body to the good of medicine. I don't think you can buy cadavers. Or you may get people literally sacrificing themselves for their families!"

"Oh yea! Duhh...or it may encourage murder too."

Stupidity knows no end.
