I used to wonder what it would be like to look after a baby.
Why do mothers with young babies carry such huge bags?
Why are they usually almost always not on time for appointments and functions?
Why do people 'mellow down' once they have babies?
So I found my answers.
What's in a baby bag?
Extra diapers
Extra baby and mummy's clothing
Towels and bibs
Baby wipes
Tissues
Change mat
Baby bottles/formula
Small toy/s
Water for poor mummy
Hand sanitizer
Powder and lotion for particular mummys
...and then the bag ends up heavier than your baby.
Is it that difficult to keep an appointment?
Well!! Depends on the baby!! It's not easy to go out these days anymore. Gone are the days of spontaneity and randomness. No more, 'hey, i feel like going shopping now!' or 'lets go out for dinner tonight,'
Instead it's 'Shall we aim to go out for a meal next Wednesday around 5-6pm depending on baby's feeding times and how settled he is and the weather and how much sleep I get and oh ya we need to go somewhere child-friendly with parking and good toilets...and of course good food too...'
And what about shopping?! How to lug a baby around and go clothes shopping, it beats me. Have yet to try that, I doubt very much I would anytime soon. New mothers don't really go clothes shopping anyway, due to fatness and tiredness and priorities.
And the mellowing down?
If one doesn't mellow down after a 24/7 marathon of feeding, burping, washing, sterilising, nappy changing, bathing, cuddling, playing, and on top of that looking after oneself and the house and the rest of the family- then I don't know what One is made of.
And with baby in my other arm and on my lap sucking away at his bottle, I have a newfound respect for mothers with multiple kids and single mums.
