So does!
I sit here with my laptop on my lap (no pun intended) wishing I had some form of entertainment. Well it is really very satisfying and entertaining just watching Little E fall asleep- he pulls all sorts of funny faces as he drifts off into the land of nod. But after that I need some other form of sanity. This is when my world begins. For a little while at least, until the Beast awakens. (ok, he's not really a beast.)
It's barely 8:00pm and I am so so ready for bed. Bub sleeps early, you see. Much earlier than 8:00 pm, in fact so early that I don't want to talk about it here!
I remember playing this game growing up:
Need at least 2 players.
Take a piece of paper and a pencil.
Draw as many columns as you can think of.
Take turns to shout out any alphabet and category (eg: letter A, fruits).
Compete to see who can come up with the most fruits starting with letter A in English or Malay.
Write them as quickly as you can in the columns, while shouting them out. The first to shout out a word and writes it down and has the most wins.
That's what we did when we were so bored. I am not bored now, so I came up with something else. It's a one person player since there is only me here. I doubt Little E can play. It's pretty lame, but it's keeping me slightly entertained and working my brain a little.
Foonglish (Foochow English)
Lettuce = let use
Spagetthi = SPAG- eti

Blanket = blang cake
Make = met
Is it = issik
Racket = ruck cake

An example of a sentence:

Being in Australia has surprisingly taught me so much about Foochows. From ex-housemates to friends to family, I have learnt some things of my own culture which I was oblivious to in the past. They are pretty neutral, I don't think they're good or bad. It's a cultural thing. For example,
- When ringing someone's home, always ask if they've had their meal yet. Even if it's 3pm, ask if they have had their lunch. I wonder what the cut off time is? If it's 4pm, do you ask if they've had their dinner, or lunch?
- Have dinner real early, 5:oopm?
- To celebrate something, always have food involved. Must always have fish.
- Eat lots of pork and cook with lots of oil.
- All parts of the pig is edible.
- Talk very loudly and laugh even louder.
- Have a beer gut- it looks prosperous.
- Believe in some form of superstition- it's tradition so it's good for you.
- Talk about how much you miss the local Sibu dishes, especially kampua (yummoss!)
- Give back what you get from others. (Hmm I don't understand this one)
- Red is good
- Black is bad
- Don't stir your Milo. You will get dizzy.
There is so much more to discover about Foochows.
And just to be VERY extremely lame, does anyone know why Foochows love food?
This just came to my mind:
Food = chow, right?
So what is that in Foonglish?
Foo-chow ie. FOOCHOW.
I think your brain is overloaded with lameness now, so it's time to stop.
And then, I am entertained...
