Hmm. I have been hearing a lot of Do's and Don'ts the last couple of months I decided to look up on more myths just for the fun of it. Here are some really ridiculous ones, I have never heard before until I did this research:
1. You can determine the sex of a baby by dangling a wedding ring over the tummy. If it were true, ultrasonographers and obstetricians may be out of a job by now. And boy, wouldn't a Tiffany's ring be sooo desirable it as it may be more clever than a cheap ring!(Damn I should've believed this myth and got a Tiffany's...)
2.Suffering badly from morning sickness means you're having a girl. Morning sickness is due to change in hormones.
3.You can tangle the umbilical cord by raising your arms above your head. The WHAT wha..?
And here are some I have heard by word of mouth:
1. No pineapple allowed. My mum says the very very old generation used to believe that pineapple cuts your mouth when you eat it, so it will cut your baby in your stomach. Luckily we now know babies do not grow in mouths or stomachs, they are safely in what's called a uterus. Which is not the mouth or stomach obviously. Or each time you go to the toilet for a number 2, you gotta be more than worried. However I myself haven't had the urge to eat any pineapple yet.

2. No cold drinks. I don't know the reasons yet. But I know 38degrees + nosebleeds every other day warrants a cold drink or so.
3. No washing hair after giving birth for one month. Oh, and don't wash your hands in cold water too. It brings on arthritis and back pain. I haven't found any medical evidence or any evidence, my mum seems fine as she is a firm non-believer of myths too. Also I'd rather not give the baby bacteria from unwashed hands and hair. Yuck!
Here are some true 'myths' (well they sound like myths but they are 100% true)
1. You will develop Pea-brain. (my own terminology). In other words you become stupider and forget every single thing. I was going to make myself some tea the other day, but I got out the bread instead. The time I realised that bread and tea don't even rhyme was when my hands touched the bread in the bag!! arghh.
Sorry, Mr.Pea.
2. Cut down on caffeine. Max 2 cups a day. Associated with low birth weight of the baby, which may lead to complications and may be fatal.
3. Stay away from cats. It may cause Toxoplasmosis, which is a serious condition contracted through faeces of cats and possums. Same reason to avoid contact with soil/gardening. Wash hands thoroughly if no choice. Toxo causes miscarriage.

4. Do not take ginseng(maybe one drop is ok). It is a uterine stimulant ie. causes miscarriages.
Now I really have to get some ....(the dreaded word...) Maternity wear. Thanks Ching for pointing out that website! And thanks to everyone for your prayers :)
